choosing rest doesn’t mean your life is soft

We don’t talk enough about what it really means to choose rest, especially when the world is built to keep you in motion.

The internet loves an aesthetic: candlelit baths, early morning matchas, curated slow moments. But choosing rest goes deeper than a well-timed reel. It’s not just about the soft visuals. It’s about protecting your peace in real time, even when it’s inconvenient or uncomfortable.

The truth is, choosing rest isn’t always easy, but it’s still worth it.

The Lie: If You Rest, Everything Will Feel Better

Sometimes we buy into the idea that a quiet evening or a quick nap will solve everything. And while those moments help, choosing rest isn’t a quick fix. It’s a long-term commitment.

It looks like turning down things that drain you. Letting go of urgency. Detaching from praise tied to performance. It means facing the feelings that come up when the noise fades.

Rest doesn’t erase the hard stuff, it simply gives you space to face it with clarity.

The Guilt That Comes With Choosing Rest

Even now, I catch myself feeling guilty for needing rest. For choosing slow moments. For not producing as much as I would like for the newsletter and for my 9-5. But that guilt? It’s not true. Choosing rest means unlearning the idea that your worth is tied to your output. That you have to earn your breaks. You don’t. You’re allowed to need care and to give it to yourself without apology.

It’s not about being idle. It’s about being intentional.

This Season Is Still Sacred

If you’ve slowed down lately, pulled back, or simply needed more space… that’s not failure. That’s awareness.

Maybe you're not moving like you used to. Maybe you're healing. Maybe you're redefining everything. That’s still progress.

Choosing rest in this season is a sacred decision. One that honors where you are and not where the world thinks you should be.

What I’m Holding Onto

  • Rest is not a reward… it’s a right

  • Boundaries create space for healing

  • Productivity is not a personality

  • A peaceful life is built, not bought

Choosing rest is a form of resistance. A quiet act of rebellion. A way back to yourself.

If it feels hard, that doesn’t mean you’re doing it wrong. It means you’re doing it with intention. And that’s where the real power is.
