02: I’m really writing a book, y’all (and I need accountability)

What to expect in this newsletter

I’m making drinks and telling stories:

The drink: Prosecco Paloma (it’s so refreshing!)

The story: The first chapter of my manuscript! (feedback is encouraged)

Where did March go?! I had plans to send this newsletter two weeks ago, but because I was in my head about the content (the subject line says it all) and sipping too much of this month’s drink recipe while trying to perfect it, here we are with the month ready to head out.

Like I mentioned in the last newsletter, I’m writing a manuscript! It’s in the very rough stages, but I’m so excited to share the first chapter with you—and I’m encouraging feedback. It’s set in the city I fell in love with and features people who may feel familiar to you.

Second chances are tricky, but who doesn’t love a good ride while figuring it out? Introducing 'Dearest Dion,' a story filled with romance, poetic exploration, and themes we don’t talk about enough.

"Dearest Dion" follows Charlie, a Houston-based web designer, who unexpectedly runs into someone from her past at her favorite coffee shop. Their tense conversation reveals unresolved emotions, hinting at past closeness and hurt. Despite her initial reluctance, she agrees to talk things through, leading to a moment of unspoken tension when she learns their paths are crossing too close to home… again. The chapter sets the stage for a second-chance story filled with nostalgia, unspoken feelings, and the complexities of rekindling old connections.

Outside of it disrespecting my allergies, I’m so ready for spring. I’m ready for pastels, patio weather, and refreshing drinks. In anticipation of the next few months, I’ve been sipping Prosecco Palomas and preparing to serve them to my friends soon. This cocktail is light with a nice balance of tart and sweet, and since Prosecco replaces the usual sparkling water found in a classic Paloma, this drink is strong.

Sip with caution, but you will enjoy!

Y’all, I’m genuinely looking for feedback, so whether you liked the chapter and the drink or neither was your cup of tea, I’d love to hear from you. If you’re so moved to share your thoughts, feel free to respond to this newsletter.

Thanks so much for being here and joining me on my journey. Chat next month!
